After Las Ramblas, one of the most beautiful street in the world, according to the novelist William Somerset Maugham, comes the Arc del Teatre street, with an open arc leading to the facade of the “Teatro Principal”, a building categorized as one of the artistic values of Barcelona. In front of the apartment is a tiny bar, “La Cazalla”, which opened in 1890, very famous for its strong cherry liquor. In the neighborhood of the Arc Del Teatre building lay the “Atarazarans”, magnificent construction of the thirteenth century.
Current headquarters of the Museo Marítimo (very interesting); The Plaza Portal of La Paz opens to the harbor of Barcelona, where rises the monument to Colombus, as well at the art exposition center of Santa Mónica. From the Puerto (harbor) a pedestrian wooden bridge will lead you to “Maremagnum”, a concentration of bars, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas, a spectacular aquarium, shopping malls ,etc. In Nou de la Ramblas street is the Palacio Güell, work of the architect Gaudi and home of the “Instituto del Teatre” (Nou de la Rambla, nº5). At the nº6 is the building where Pablo Picasso lived in 1902, from the start of the blue era of his paintings. In that area we would like to point out the very famous and picturesque restaurants in Barcelona, such as “los Caracoles” and “Grill Room” Carrer Escudiller nº101, and the “Amaya” in Plaça al Teatre. These local references are also close to other more modest bars and fast foods, as well as others of old tradition and character, such as the Bar Pastis (Carrer Santa Monica, 4), opened in 1947 and known for its evocation of the world of Edit Piaf. “Charcuteria Lo Castellano” (rambla nº41) London Bar (C/ Unió nº10). Close to the Hotel Oriente (Ramblas nº45) which is very animated.
Close to Plaza Real, with its many bars and animations, as well as the famous Teatro de Opera, know all around the world. Arc del Teatre is the core of the “Montmartre Barcelonés”, currently in renovation, with modern buildings, like our apartment, and where the urban added value is very high with the social return of the intellectuals, artists, and modern youth which are the root of this big city. The district, also known as “El Chino”, was always a very attractive zone, in which you’ll discover its unique and confusing character, which famous writers like Simone de Beauvoir, Pexre de Mandriagrgues, Jeagenet Ilxa Erenberg and Hemingway wrote about.
The name of “ El Chino” does not derive from the emigrant population of that origin, but of the mystery that stopped some writers, sailors and adventurers who arrived in Barcelona by the port from the North American city of San Francisco. Under many aspects, this district stands out as the best urban spot to live, be entertained and ldiscover Barcelona.
The Arc de Teatre apartment is situated in the Raval district. Walking down the Ramblas from Plaça Catalunya, the Raval is the quarter on the right side. The Raval (alternatively known as the Chinese Quarter) has been the Bohemian quarter of the city, because it was the quarter of the artists, intellectuals, and until today it maintains a Bohemian air. Nowadays it is the most multicultural and exotic quarter of Barcelona, with stores offering food from all over the world, modern bars, restaurants and cultural centres. The Raval also houses the MACBA museum (Museum of Contemporary Art) and the CCCB (The Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona). Also located in the Raval is the Liceu Opera House, which has been reconstructed after the fire in 1994 and has preserved a great part of its magnificent interior. Since its reopening, the Liceu has diversified its programme to include several concerts and recitals.
