Gune Foundation

Fundacion Gune

1 € does make a difference in Senegal!

A single Euro can ensure the healthy nutrition of one child in Kolda; for an entire month!

In Kolda, the poorest region of Senegal, the Guné foundation sent food-processing, agriculture and nutrition teachers to show to the mothers of the poorest villages to cultivate and prepare nutritional food. In this region, the population does not starve but nutritional deficiencies are a serious problem for the development of children. It was therefore not surprising to see Rent4Days look for a way of helping the Guné Foundation to fight poverty. The “check-in for Africa” campaign is simple. Every client who is renting a holiday or corporate apartment in Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon or Miami can donate one single Euro to the foundation. While it seems little, taking into consideration the number of bookings and therefore donations and the impact that even a little money can have on a Region as poor as Kolda, the campaign can actually make a difference.

This euro is dedicated to the women of the village and the care of their children. Professors are assigned to different villages. With the courses of the teachers, the women of the village learn to farm with a variety of aliment at low production cost and high nutritious coefficient. The overproduction will be sold and the profits will be used for the children of the village, allowing them to go to college and buy books to continue their studies.

In addition to classes on agricultural techniques, mathematics and accounting, women learn to prepare a variety of dishes with nutritious herbs and cereals to reduce nutritional deficiencies of their children. They are learning to take care of their children and also to be independent, autonomous and responsible. These women thus become true business personalities.

The classes can only take place in the afternoon because women have to work at the field in the morning when the sun is not at its zenith. So to take care of the children of the village in the mid time, the foundation Guné has created child-care centers. Every morning, games, traditional songs, tales or plays performed by children are organized. This way of teaching community life, care for the needs of others around them and the will to transmit culture is a big step for their personal development, understanding and awakening of their senses. Those centers allow interaction, learning and openness to others that prepare the children to face life.
