Dating from 1786, the Fira de Santa Llucia is a Christmas fair held every December outside Barcelona Cathedral. Around 300 market stalls sell seasonal goodies, while nativity scenes, musical parades and exhibitions add to the fun.

A much-loved feature of this festival is the giant caga tío, a huge, smiley-faced “log”. Much like a Mexican piñanta, the caga tío drops out, or ‘caga‘ (‘craps’), presents when kids beat it with a stick.

The caga tío is a character in Catalan mythology relating to Christmas tradition and many families keep one in their homes during the festive season (small versions are on sale at the Fira de Santa Llucia’s market).

Lisbon – Bar Tuareg

tuareg1For those who want to drink Lisbon’s true spirit of the nomadic tuaregs, was born a new bar in the capital where the watchword is the hospitality. The Tuareg was born in the same place where it was installed the wistful Johnny Guitar. This heritage can be a good harbinger for the new Moroccan-inspired space.
Punctuated by low tables and poufs, the Tuareg calls for lengthy conversations around a mint tea well hot according to the tradition. Sitting on the Moroccan way, you can experience the smells and tastes of the land west of the salt, however, unlike his counterpart in Leça da Palmeira, the Tuareg Lisbon works not only as a restaurant, but as a bar and tea room.

The hexagonal skylight, or the tank where the prisoners took bathroom (which is now sometimes the venue for the concerts!) are visible in some of the reminiscences Net Jazz Café.

Lisbon – Bar Maria Caxuxa

maria-caxuxa

Without a doubt one of the most trendy bars in the night of Lisbon. Recently opened, the Maria Caxuxa is already one of the most “in” in Lisbon. Located at Rua da Barroca, area that was once a factory of cakes.
Their new owners wisely kept the walls of marble, the traditional tijoleira the firewood oven, the pastry machines and a series of old wooden furniture. Recovered the decoration of the time of Maria Caxuxa and created a welcoming environment with great environment.
The music is considered lounge style with an excellent selection of dj’s and in the week-end is also dance music to encourage the hosts. A bet that seems to win the match because Maria Caxuxa became one of the most attended bars of Bairro Alto.
