Celebrate the 500th Birthday of Florida and Miami
Juan Ponce de León was the first Spanish explorer to arrive in Florida. In 1493, Ponce de León sailed with Christopher Columbus on Columbus’ second voyage to America. Ponce de León set sail again, this time north through the Bahamas heading towards Florida. He was in search of new lands and treasures. He had also heard of a mythical fountain of youth.
On 2nd of April of 1513, his ships landed on Florida’s east coast near present-day St. Augustine. He claimed this beautiful land in the name Spain. Since he had discovered this country of lavish landscape and beautiful beaches, he was entitled to name it; he named it La Florida or “place of flowers”.
The age of colonization and exploration brought the French to Florida and started building colonies. This upset Spain and as a result Pedro Menendez de Aviles was sent to drive out the French colonists.
Menendez began to threaten Fort Caroline. Jean Ribault, the French explorer, knew the Spanish were busy building the fort at St. Augustine, so he took many men and ships to attack them. Menendez took advantage of this and left with 500 soldiers to attack Fort Caroline. The Spanish were able to take control of the fort and they killed almost all the French soldiers.
During the XVII century the English attacked the Spanish for several times. In 1763, at the end of the Seven Years’ War, Spain was forced to cede Florida to Britain based on the Treaty of Paris.
Twenty years later, Spain recovered Florida through the Treaty of Versailles of 1783, which put an end to American independence war.
After the so-called ‘second war of independence’, Spain was forced to sell Florida to the United States, though the signing of the Adams-Onis Treaty of 1819.

In those three direct confrontations, Bayern continued to the leagues next round 2 times and the F.C. only once.
Bayern are a winning machine this year that surpassed all other challengers to the title of the German “Bundesliga” and even won six additional games.
