From 11th to 21th August, The Pope will visit Madrid for World Youth Day. World Youth Day is a religious and cultural event which takes place every three years. For one week, it brings together young people from around the globe to reflect on the message of Jesus Christ. Between 1 500 000 and 2 500 000 people are expected to attend this event. For the occasion, dozens of masses, concerts, religious and social gatherings will be organized in Madrid.

The Pope’s encounter with young Catholics will be accompanied by an extensive program of cultural activities, including film, theatre, music and the visual arts. Over 300 events in different parts of Madrid will take place to celebrate the faith.
The Retiro Park will be hosting Vocational Expo 2011, with nearly 80 stands representing different movements and institutions, allowing those attending WYD to learn more about the vocations existing within the Church and opportunities to do God’s work.
World Youth Day will conclude on Sunday 21 August with a charity football match at the Vicente Calderón Stadium.
