The most popular and typical festivals of Madrid

Like every year, from the 6th to the 15th of August, the feasts of St. Cayetano, St. Lorenzo and La Virgin de la Paloma, -one of the patrons of Madrid’s city-, are held  and  the neighbourhoods of Cascorro, Lavapies and La Latina with be filled with the sounds of concerts, processions, parades and popular dances.

Madrid’s streets decorated for the occasion turn into a carnival of colors and all the local dress in traditional costumes (the “chulapos” and “chulapas”) and many tourists come to discover the Castilian warmth.

The festival reaches its climax on the 15th of August, feast of the Assumption of the Virgin, followed by the verbena of Castiza de Fusión where neighbours invite visitors to a lemonade, a sangria or a vermouth accompanied with the very famous gallinejas, barquillos, or squid sandwiches .
